An airbag (10) is unfolded in the space between a support (18) and a counter surface (26), which are at a relative distance corresponding to the height of a housing to contain the folded airbag. A folding funnel (12) has one large (14) and one small end (16). The larger end has the same size as the unfolded airbag, and the smaller end has the size of the housing. The funnel is moved over the airbag, large end first, so that the airbag is pushed together until it is the same size as the small end. The airbag is enclosed by a jacket located between funnel and airbag wall.
