Airbag specifically adapted for an airbag safety system
DRIVE
March 5, 2003
This vehicle safety airbag cover membrane (1) is made of silicon rubber which is circular in form and is glued to the airbag housing. In the centre of the membrane are four lines of weakened material (3,4,5,6) of equal length and at right angles to each other, which meet at a point (7) in the centre. This allows the airbag, during the inflation process, to tear the membrane along the weakened lines, so that the membrane folds outwards along fold lines (10), thus ensuring that injury is not caused to the vehicle occupants are not injured by flying pieces of broken membrane
