Process for ripening positive lead accumulator plates comprises separating the plates; and treating with water vapor for less than 3 hours at an ambient temperature of above 60 degrees C. The lead sulfate produced is controlled. Preferred Features: Ripening is carried out at an ambient temperature of above 80 degrees C for 1 hour with water vapor. The plates are separated using a membrane. The formation of tetra-basic lead sulfate is controlled by the amount of sulfuric acid in a paste.
