The vehicle, having a passenger compartment with front (12) and folding rear (3) seats making a flat loading floor, is made with a mobile roof section, part glass (13) and part metal (14b), that pivots about a horizontal axis (15) at its forward end so it can drop down behind the front seats and separate the front part of the passenger compartment from an open-topped rear section. In addition, the upper part (7a) of the rear hatchback door (7) slides down into the lower part, and the rear door and side windows (5a, 6a) also retract. The rear pick-up section can also be extended by a folding tailgate panel and sliding side walls to create additional load-carrying space.
