The armrest with movable arm support for motor vehicles has a pair of parallel spaced apart guide rods(7) installed to move linearly in guides(6) and rigidly connected to the support element for the arm support(10). The guide rods are connected to an adjusting and braking device through which in the unloaded state of the arm support the guide rods are movable in the longitudinal direction and in the loaded state are locked in the respective position.
