The charge intake for a motor vehicle internal combustion engine has a divided duct (24) with the outer walls of the divided channel section leading up to the intake ports shaped to control the charge slow. The outer walls can be curved inwardly (68) to form a protuberance (70) adjacent to the respective intake valve (37,39). The protuberance causes a laminar charge flow to increase the flow rate through the intake.
