Operating device for a locking system

The control for the catch on a motor vehicle glove box lid has an actuating arm (20) with a pull handle (30) and mounted for rotation on a pivot between a locking position and a free position. A friction damper assembly (26) dampens the rotation of the arm, with two friction plates, one of which is fixed to the front wall of the glove box and the other on the arm.
