Method for off board navigation of a vehicle

The method involves computing a route with way points from a starting position to a destination in a central station and outputting the route to the driver as instructions taking into account current position coordinates. The central station checks the quantity of data to be transmitted before sending route data and if a defined value is exceeded a shortened part route is computed including the first way point and a coarse route description.
