OFF-AIR - Billlie

I hated ZAP and felt ambivalent about WORK, but OFF-AIR has that classic Billlie sound that I was really craving, especially in this live version (which I think is better than the studio). They are just such talented vocalists. I'm hoping they circle back to this sound next comeback.

Attaboy! - Jae Stephens

This is a crazy statement but I think Jae Stephens might be the closest thing we have right now to a Janet Jackson successor - not necessarily a 1-to-1 match in sound, but purely on vibes. This song is so fun and sexy, and I just love her voice.

Now or Never - Yseult

I absolutely LOVE this sound on Yseult! Her voice just has such a gorgeous depth of emotion. The production is pitch perfect - it's that 80s synth that I can only describe as shimmery. Also she's just... so hot.

Talk on the Hill - WILLOW

At some point, Willow finally figured out what kind of music she actually wants to make and has gone all-in on this experimental, alt-jazz-pop sound that I have really vibed with on her last two albums. I like that I often feel kind of off-kilter when I listen to her music.

Hours - SHINee

It has been a HOT SHINEE WEEK!!! The whole mini is insanely good. I think Atmos and Anti-Believer are my other favs off the album BUTTTT Hours is exactly the kind of SHINee that I crave 24/7. They will always eat UP a pop-funk track. My ONLY quibble is that I think the trap breakdown in the post-chorus makes the energy dip, but it's such a small thing that I barely even mind. WOW I LOVE THEM!!!

Tonight - girlsweetvoiced

This song was a lucky algorithm find, so I'm not super familiar with her work, but I'm obsessed with the loop of the riff from Joni Mitchell's California. It gives the track this sort of timeless feel. I'm going to keep an eye out for her for sure!

Pretty Girl - KARA

I was on kind of a Kara kick this week, and I have such a soft spot for this song. The fashion, the charming lyrics, the brassy synths, the way it's bold and sweet at once. Kara come back to us, please, we need you.

The Peace - underscores

I've been listening to U again in preparation for seeing her next week, and I think this is my favorite off the album. It's heartbreaking and ethereal and raw. I love that it's just her voice, chopped and screwed into instruments. Her production style is just unmatched right now.

Okay see you next week!
