Help! Please! How can I stop focus jumping to the end of my Apple Mail inbox?

Hi Everybody! All of a sudden, focus started jumping to the beginning or end of my Apple Mail inbox every time I deleted an email or moved an email to another mailbox. Ordinarily, this wouldn't be much of a problem, but I have 100 emails in myh inbox, and I get dozens of new emails every day, so now I have to arrow arrow arrow to get to the middle where I had left off every time I move or remove email! Help! wringing hands fearfully I am using the most recent version of Sequoia on a 2022 Mac Studio M1 ultra connected to a fiber network. Best, Bruce ng
