ChatGPT Pro Account Deactivated: "identity_edge_internal_error"
Hi everyone,
I am a ChatGPT Pro subscriber ($200/month). On June 7, my account was unexpectedly deactivated. I never received any deactivation email or prior warning.
I am posting here to seek technical assistance because I am stuck in an automated support loop, and the backend reality is completely out of sync with what Support sees.
The Technical Issue: Support checked my account and informed me that it “appears to be active” and they “do not currently see any issues” on their end. However, I am completely blocked from accessing the service:
Web Interface: The system accepts my login credentials but loads a completely blank page. No chat history, no input box.
Codex CLI: When connecting to the backend, the edge server throws a hard
401 Unauthorizedblock. Here is the exact raw error log:
■ unexpected status 401 Unauthorized: Your OpenAI account has been deactivated, please check your email for more information. If you feel this is an error, contact us through our help center at help.openai.com., url: [https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/codex/responses](https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/codex/responses), cf-ray: a0b629ebbf6ed77b-NRT, auth error: identity_edge_internal_error
Timeline & The Support Loop:
June 7: Account deactivated without notice. I manually submitted an official appeal via the form. Ticket C-fLiw6MGqxuMd.
Pre-June 13: The automated support assistant explicitly confirmed: “Escalated to a support specialist; You can expect a response in the coming days.”
June 13 - June 14 (Case 09976638): After receiving no response, I followed up. Support told me my account appears “Active.” I then provided the backend logs and screenshots proving the
401edge block. The Dead End: Support explicitly acknowledged the “discrepancy between the account information displayed in the interface and the access error,” but simply replied with an automated template, instructing me to “submit an appeal using the link included in the deactivation notification you received” (an email I never got).
The Impact: I have now been locked out of my account for over a week. This prolonged loss of access has brought my AI-dependent work to a complete standstill, and I have lost access to all my crucial research data and results stored within my chat history.
@OpenAI_Support - Could a technical specialist please look into the originally escalated ticket C-fLiw6MGqxuMd? The cf-ray log and the absence of any notification email strongly point to a backend bug (identity_edge_internal_error). I simply want to regain access to my paid workspace.
Has anyone else experienced this specific error after a deactivation? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
