Call to action: Cancel your Spotify for running ads to join ICE
ICE has been advertising jobs on Spotify's platform and Spotify refuses to take them down and stop supporting mass deportation activities. (And I'd like to add that the founder of Spotify is using his fortune to fund weapons being used for humans rights abuses).
@Indivisible.org is running a campaign for people to cancel their Spotify accounts to repeat the strategy that worked against Disney when they suspended/canceled Jimmy Kimmel in September.
If you're ready to do the thing, here's the TLDR version of the steps:
Canceling Spotify and deleting your account is easy (they'll still count it as active in their numbers to shareholders even if it's a free account), but many of us have been using the service for years and have lots of playlists and play histories tied into the app. Fortunately, this data can be migrated!
The consensus is we're moving to Tidal due to, among other things, their emphasis on paying artists more fairly than other streaming services.
https://tidal.com/ External Link • tidal.comTidal has a partnership with a service that enables you to migrate your music data between multiple services, including Spotify.
https://www.tunemymusic.com/ External Link • tunemymusic.comIt's a one time fee to do the migration, but you'll end up paying less for migration and a Tidal subscription in two months than you will for two months of Spotify premium, so worth it.
After you've moved your data over, you're ready to let Spotify know their actions of consequences! When you cancel, follow the prompts and be sure to let them know why you're canceling by clicking 'Other' as the reason and typing something like "Canceling until Spotify terminates ICE ads".
Finally, you can post about it on social media and tag Spotify. Here's a toolkit with buttons that make it easy to post to Bluesky and other social media sites.
