There is no corner to turn
“There is no corner to turn!”
😲
Such a simple, but profound observation, related to me by a client (thank you for letting me share 💝)
A philosophy to live by, even.
Because, how much of our lives do we spend with this invisible belief driving all our behaviours?
- Raising children… it’ll be better when I’ve turned the corner.
- Advancing through a career… it’ll be better when I’ve turned the corner.
- A financial situation… it’ll be better when I’ve turned the corner.
- Relationship difficulties… it’ll be better when I’ve turned the corner.
- Mental health issues… it’ll be better when I’ve turned the corner.
- Spiritual growth… it’ll be better when I’ve turned the corner.
We’re so focused—innocently, I must add—on tomorrow being better than today, that we don’t actually get to live life!
⌚
Tomorrow is just a thought. It’s not actually a thing.
You don’t ever get to experience it. That’s just a trick of the mind; it’s ego, dangling ‘not this’ in front of you like a carrot on a string that you’ll never reach.
Indeed, it’s this comparison with what-can-never-be (an idea of perfection) that keeps us miserable and stuck and makes reality appear—to the mind, at least—dull, when held up against this fantasy.
It’s a game you can’t win.
So next time you catch the mind wishing your life away, just remember: this is it. This is what I get.
THIS—right here, right now—is life!
By all means take action (you can’t not do, really) but do it from this place of understanding. It’s got a very different feel to it.
There is no corner to turn.
You’re already there.
