It’s impossible to put Kaytranada’s sound in a box. At a push, his sonic universe could be described as the sound of summer. Under the heat of gyrating bodies and laser lights, an evening with Kaytranada embodied the magic of a balmy summer evening. On the London night of his world tour, Kaytranada transformed the O2 arena into a night club. The Haitian-Canadian DJ and producer drew an energised crowd who swayed and two-stepped to every drop and bounce. Somehow a venue of thousands became an intimate dance floor. Wine in hand, Kaytranada set the tone with his charismatic dance moves and energetic chants. He seamlessly commanded the crowd from a circular DJ booth in the middle of the floor that intermittently rose above the crowd. It was a unique set up that was incredibly engaging and kept the crowd facing one another. The stage lighting helped create the escapism of a dimly lit disco that mirrored the energy of the crowd. Seeing an entire arena freeze and pose to “Dance Dance Dance Dance” and clap in unison to “Be Your Girl (Kaytranada Edition)” was a masterclass in letting the music lead the crowd.
