Waiver Wire Wonders
In some leagues, especially those that don’t have a dedicated Injured List available, it’s an accomplishment to even have choices on your bench. Important decisions have to be made, and no one said it would be easy. The problem is that you aren’t the only one. Some weeks will be more difficult than others. That’s also the case because decisions must be made about earlier-season disappointments. Some might be available on the waiver wire, but do you strike? With the exception of players who are hot, emerging, or both, is the waiver wire option better than what’s currently on your roster? Let’s take a look at some players to consider.
Please note that all statistics are entering play on Friday, 6/26.

Hitters – 12 Team Leagues
These players should be available in greater than 50% of most leagues.
Tommy Edman, 2B/OF, Los Angeles Dodgers (Fantrax roster rate 49%)

Edman is a very attractive option in dynasty upon returning from the 60-day IL just over a week ago. He seamlessly steps into one of the better lineups in the league, has a track record of success, and also versatility. It’s reasonable that the Dodgers would, at least initially, proceed cautiously with Edman, but he’s showing no signs of rust. Through his first 24 plate appearances, Edman has eight hits and two walks. What’s interesting, though, is that he’s yet to score a run and only has one RBI and one double. I wouldn’t be worried about either of those, as Edman’s track record speaks for itself at this point, and there’s also a clear opening at second base for him to fill.
Sean Keys, 3B, Toronto Blue Jays (Fantrax roster rate 26%)

It’s clear that the Blue Jays need both a spark and an injection of power. Finding a spot for Keys to play will come, but they also didn’t promote him to sit on the bench. After beginning the season in Double-A, Keys was promoted to Triple-A and didn’t miss a beat. In 67 games this season, Keys has 21 home runs and 54 RBI while also stealing seven bases and batting .284. When you then factor in a 13.6% walk rate, there’s a lot to like with Keys.
Cooper Ingle, C, Cleveland Guardians (Fantrax roster rate 34%)

Pick your spot with Ingle as his natural position is a catcher, but the Guardians promoted him for his bat. At least defensively, Cleveland is now set behind the plate with Patrick Bailey, but they are looking for an offensive spark. From a fantasy perspective, it’s the ideal situation: we have Ingle’s eligibility at catcher, but we get him at DH or left field as he adjusts to life in the major leagues. In Triple-A this season, Ingle hit .284 with 12 home runs and 41 RBI while showing an impressive approach with 41 walks and 50 strikeouts. For those looking for an upgrade behind the plate, and who isn’t, Ingle could be an interesting option this weekend.
