PLIVE+ Deep Sea Diving: May Power Brings June _______?

Prospects Live June 3, 2026
Source

In this series, I'll be using PLIVE+, Prospect Live's secret weapon (which all MVP and Hall of Fame subscribers have access to), to uncover the next breakout prospects before anyone else. This week we're focusing on a couple toolsy players that are making enough contact to showcase their skills, some surprising power gainers, a couple plate approach masters, another batch of FYPD standouts, some young players just beginning full-season ball, two prospects showing new or outstanding skills, and a few guys that happen to be teammates in Oregon. It's time to move on from struggling prospects that peaked in 2024 and start searching for the next potential big thing. Follow me @high_upside on X, and I'll be back Friday with this week's pitching prospects.

Toolsheds

Sam Petersen, OF, WAS

23 yo, Double-A, 4% rostered on Fantrax, PL+ career/year 128/105 (+8.1 monthly change)

Petersen has mashed since being drafted out of Iowa in 2024, slashing .290/.400/.499 over 465 plate appearances with 43 extra base hits and 43 steals (3 CS). He’s been on another level since May 19th, vaulting himself to near the top of our monthly and weekly risers. Over that period, he’s slashed .372/.471/.767 with 4 home runs and 4 stolen bases. His contact rate could use some improvement, but he’s done a solid job of limiting strikeouts in prior seasons.

Sam Petersen comes a triple shy of the cycle in a three-hit effort!

The 2025 Scorpion is batting .298 in the month of May and has already set a new career-best in homers with nine this season (previous high was 7). pic.twitter.com/UCWVxuW7ID

Lonnie White Jr., OF, PIT

23 yo, Double-A, 3% rostered on Fantrax, PL+ career/year 106/105 (+4.8 monthly change)

White has made big improvements to his contact and strikeout rates, and solid results have followed. He’s slashing .293/.407/.567 with 12 home runs (20 extra base hits) and 14 stolen bases (2 CS) this season. The outfielder has plus speed and at least above-average raw power. I normally dismiss the “if they could only make more contact” archetype, but we have to pay attention when they make such notable improvements.

May Power

Juan Flores, C, LAA

20 yo, High-A, 1% rostered on Fantrax, PL+ career/year 120/109 (+6.2 monthly change)

Flores received plus fielding and plus-plus throwing grades from our Matt Seese this preseason. This season, he’s taken a major step forward at the plate, slashing .273/.359/.531 over 147 High-A plate appearances. He’ll never provide stolen bases, but he’s already up to 8 home runs and 9 doubles this season after posting 21 extra base hits in 342 plate appearances last year.
