Sunday Smoke: Rapid-Fire Writeups

Prospects Live April 13, 2026

Happy Sunday, folks! As I’ve written, this early portion of the season is a lot to take in with every single player and team in all of baseball suffering from SSS (Small Sample Syndrome). The only cures are watching more baseball and/or consuming a powerful dose of analysis from people who are addicted to this wonderful game. I typically like to focus on a few specific players and deliver deeper dives, but I’ve felt like there’s just so much to discuss the past few weeks that I always leave too much meat on the bone.

So, this week we’re going to shoot from the hip with some rapid-fire analysis from some of the most intriguing (and concerning) phenomena around the league.

Jordan Walker, STL OF

Jordan Walker is looking FIERCE

If you tried to trade this guy for a 1st round pick in any format just a few weeks ago, you’d be laughed at. Seven home runs later, and suddenly everyone remembers that this is a 23-year-old with some of the highest upside of any player on planet earth. While I enjoy watching the Cards and do believe there is potent .260/.320 upside along with 30+ homers at his peak, I’m also feeling like it’s a good sell-high moment in the right scenario. Let’s not forget that Walker was still struggling as recently as this spring, and even while he’s playing the best ball imaginable, he’s still sitting north of a 30% K rate! What happens when a slump hits, right? I definitely want my shares of this beast, but I already sent him packing for a pair of first-rounders and a prospect in a 30-teamer just this week. Did I sell too soon? Maybe. But I wouldn’t have gotten anything close to that not too long ago, and there will likely be more valleys in 2026 before we find out who Jordan Walker really is.
