The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets completed their sweep of blowouts over Cal, winning on Saturday, 9-3. It’s been a quiet year of slugging from Drew Burress, but he got the party started quickly, homering on the first at-bat of the game, his sixth on the season, and 50th in his college career. He later added two more hits, including an RBI single. His running mate, Jarren Advincula, had another excellent game against his former school and would win my vote for player of the series. It was a second double-triple game for him at the plate, adding in 3 more RBIs. Now in Atlanta with incredible lineup protection, Advincula has an AVG up to .415, and is SLG’ing at a career high, just as he is entering his draft year. The Sunday arm for the Bees was great again as Jackson Blakely went 5.1 scoreless, only allowing 2 hits. With 4 starts on the season, the Sophomore arm is showing incredible command with a sub-5 BB% and a K/9 that’s .01 shy of 10. The sweep served as a nice tune-up for GT as they have a big week ahead with a home midweek versus a good Kennesaw State squad before a road weekend series versus FSU. Cal will look to snap a 1-13 stretch as they have a road mid-week versus U of San Francisco and a weekend series versus Pitt.
