College Daily Sheet: Pitching Masterclass - Radel, Fay, Dempsey 3/20/26
Atlantic Coast
Covered by: Will Dodge
Lawson Olmstead, C Cal (Atlantic Coast)
2-for-3, HR, 2 R, RBI, BB
Nick Wang, LF Boston College (Atlantic Coast)
2-for-2, 2B, 2 BB
Cesar Gonzalez, RHP Boston College (Atlantic Coast)
3 IP, 2 H, BB, K
Boston College and Cal kicked off their series with a comeback win for the Eagles, 4-3. Cal’s freshman catcher Lawson Olmstead led the Bears' offensive fight with a solo homer, as part of a two-hit day with a walk. That homer was the second of Olmstead’s college career, and it left the bat at 108 mph. Even with a good start from their Friday man, Oliver de la Torre, the scoring wouldn’t be enough as BC came back with 3 shutout innings from the most interesting man in College Baseball to end it, and a run-scoring single + error from Nick Wang to tie it. Gonzalez has had a rough year at the plate, but is at a near 30% K-rate in 13IPs; he’ll be ‘27 Draft eligible. Wang continues his great grad transfer season, with an OPS now up to 1.155.
Anderson Nance, RHP North Carolina State (Atlantic Coast)
3 IP, H, 2 BB, 5 K, SV
Rett Johnson, LF North Carolina State (Atlantic Coast)
2-for-4, 2 2B, R, 2 RBI
Myles Bailey, 1B Florida State (Atlantic Coast)
1-for-3, HR, R, 3 RBI, BB
The marquee ACC matchup of the week, the NC Wolfpack took game 1 in a back-and-forth, exciting win 6-4 over Florida State. Both starters were good-not-great, but it was NCST’s So. closer Anderson Nance that shut the door with three scoreless innings and 5 K’s. As the Wolfpack Closer this season, Nance’s command has faltered a bit, but the right-hander has power stuff with a mid-90s FB and iVBs in the 20” range. The Wolfpack offense got its boost from the leadoff man, Rett Johnson, with two doubles and a sac fly to contribute two RBIs on the night. The FR OFer is a name to circle for future drafts with terrific plate discipline, a 2.6 BB/K ratio, and speed with 7 SBs on the year. Florida State got out to a big lead with their draft-eligible Sophomore Myles Bailey doing what he does best with an opposite-field blast off the scoreboard. It’s his 10th homer of the year, and it left the bat at 107 mph.
💣💣 Daniel Cuvet, 3B Miami (FL) (Atlantic Coast)
2-for-3, 2 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB
Miami kicked off a non-conference series versus Creighton on the right foot with a 9-4 win, decided by a 5-run seventh inning. The Canes' star, Daniel Cuvet added two homers to his tally, which is up to 9 on the season. He went oppo with the first blast, then pulled one down the LF line for his second, with both hit at over 100 mph. He’s cooled off after an explosive start, but Cuvet still has terrific numbers with an OPS over 1.200 as he enters his draft year.
Owen Hull, CF North Carolina (Atlantic Coast)
3-for-4, 3B, R, 3 RBI, BB
Macon Winslow, C North Carolina (Atlantic Coast)
2-for-2, 2 R, RBI, 3 BB
North Carolina stayed hot with a walk-off run-run victory over Louisville 11-1, in 8 innings. The Tar Heel arms held the Cardinals to only two hits, but it was also the UNC bats that were making traffic on the bases with 13 team hits and 10 walks. Senior CFer Owen Hull contributed 3 hits and a walk, including a triple and 3 RBIs. While he isn’t showing the raw power he had last year at GMU, Hull is getting on base more often this season and doing damage with his electric speed. Transfer C Macon Winslow added two singles and three walks. He’s having a career season at the plate in his draft platform year, with double the walks than strikeouts.
‼️ Jack Radel, RHP Notre Dame (Atlantic Coast)
9 IP, 4 H, 8 K
Mason Barth, 2B Notre Dame (Atlantic Coast)
1-for-2, HR, 2 R, RBI
After a couple of iffy starts, Jack Radel was back to doing Jack Radel things with a complete game shutout over #18 Clemson, striking out 8 and walking none. It’s only his first nine-inning complete game, but Radel has been terrific this season, eating innings with a ridiculous 28.4 K-BB%. While his FB was a tick down, the breaking stuff was electric, especially the CB that sat in the lower 80s. He’s looking more and more like a 2nd round arm. The Irish got their offense from multiple places, but Mason Barth filled the box score the best with a solo homer and a hit-by-pitch, scoring on both PAs. His homer went the other way to R-CF, hit at 107 mph. The freshman infielder is up to a .340/.470 AVG/OBP on the year.
Alex Hernandez, RF Georgia Tech (Atlantic Coast)
2-for-3, HR, R, 4 RBI, 2 BB
💣💣 🍔🍟 Trey Fenderson, 2B Pittsburgh (Atlantic Coast)
3-for-5, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, SB
Georgia Tech held off the PITT Panthers after taking an 8-0 lead in the second, to win 11-9, with all the scoring done by the fifth inning. The ball was flying out of Cost Field with windy conditions, with a combined six HRs in the game. GT’s Alex Hernandez, who got the start in RF as he continues to show off his versatility, hit an opposite-field grand slam in the second, his 5th homer on the year. In his draft platform season as a So., Hernandez isn’t hitting homers with the terrific pace that he usually is, but is now hitting up to .442. Transfer RS JR Trey Fenderson hasn’t shown the supreme OBP abilities like he did last year at Presbyterian, but he’s hitting for more power with the Panthers this season. His two homers on Friday upped his total to 4, which is a career high. With a stolen base mixed in after a single as well, Fenderson had a statsheet-stuffer.
AJ Gracia, OF Virginia (Atlantic Coast)
2-for-3, 2B, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB
🔜 Kyle Johnson, LHP Virginia Tech (Atlantic Coast)
1 IP, 2 K
The other marquee match-up in the ACC had the billing of a pitcher’s duel, but turned into another shootout as Virginia topped Wake Forest 10-6, as the Demon Deacons & Blake Morningstar continue to struggle. The Virginia bats had a great team effort with 4 XBHs, and it was their star CFer, AJ Gracia, who led them with a double and two walks. While he hasn’t shown the SB-threat that he did with Duke his first two seasons, Gracia is slugging more than ever with a .341 ISO. The Cavs also got a welcome return from one of their top preseason arms in lefty Kyle Johnson, who had an opener-like appearance, only going 1 inning, but striking out 2. Another Duke transfer, Johnson had a Stuff jump in Fall camp, which tabbed him as a key piece of the Virginia staff.
👟 Nick Locurto, LF Virginia Tech (Atlantic Coast)
1-for-3, R, RBI, BB, 3 SB
‼️ Brendan Yagesh, LHP Virginia Tech (Atlantic Coast)
7 IP, 5 H, 7 K
Moving over to Blacksburg, it was also a good start to the series for Virginia’s other school as the Hokies beat Duke 7-1. A collective team effort for the Va Tech bats, as there were 0 team XBHs, but with 9 singles, 5 walks, and 5 team SBs, the Hokies had 3 2-run innings. JR LFer Nick Locurto led Virginia Tech in the speed department with 3 stolen bases, doubling his season total to 6. He got on base in a multitude of ways with a single, a walk, and a hit by pitch. In a spot start for the normal Friday arm, Ethan Grim, Brendan Yagesh delivered a masterpiece, going 7 shutout innings, striking out 7, and walking none. The senior lefty transferred from MSM two years ago and was a fixture in the Hokies’ pen, but dazzled in his first start for VT. He noted that he had a great feeling for his off-speeds, per Collegiate Times’ Dylan Tefft.
Big 12
Covered by: Drew Wheeler
Paul Schoenfeld, CF West Virginia (Big 12)
5-for-5, 2 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI
Gavin Kelly, C West Virginia (Big 12)
3-for-5, 3B, 2B, 3 R, 3 RBI, BB, K
Don’t look now, but West Virginia’s won seven of its last eight games and clutched the series over BYU on Friday evening due to its Thursday start date. Fifth-year centerfielder Paul Schoenfeld has been as keyed-in as you can be during the two-game jaunt, hitting a perfect 10-for-10 including five hits in five at-bats on Friday. A bottom-third RBI single up the middle paved the way for a pair of doubles, including a bottom seventh smack down the right field line to score another run. Schoenfeld’s perfectly capable in center field, leading me to believe he could have some dark horse back-half draft potential as a discount Steven Kwan sort of professional. Gavin Kelly also had a strong day, including a seventh-inning three-bagger he clawed from an 0-2 count which scored two runs and helped WVU along to a 12-10 victory. The Mountaineers are rolling.
Derrick Pitts, RF Cincinnati (Big 12)
2-for-4, 2B, R, 3 RBI, BB
Pitts helped propel Cincinnati to a 9-2 lead in the bottom sixth, absolutely CLATTERING a bases-clearing double to left field and over Jake Long’s head. Pitts has been surging again after a hot start to the campaign, and the Bearcats won’t be saying no to his brand of contribution ever. There is very real power, good legs, and steady defense in right field attached to Pitts; he’s compelling.
Andrew Williamson, RF Central Florida (Big 12)
4-for-5, 3B, 2B, 3 R, 4 RBI, BB, SB
The Golden Knights really crushed it with two outs (.462) and with runners in scoring position (.550) on Friday evening, leaping out to an 18-7 thrashing of TCU. Who else would lead the way but Andrew Williamson, still on his one-man crusade to prove my earlier sentiments wrong and enact some Drew-on-Drew violence as conference play warms up. The UCF right fielder welcomed the second inning with a triple down the right field line, scoring two after scraping together a seven-pitch at-bat and fouling off two of the prior three offerings. In the fifth, Williamson knocked a single to center to score another run, and in the top ninth, doubled to deep right field and scored another. Williamson can really, REALLY hit and is a perfectly cromulent outfielder, as well. This is a day one profile who may not be the sexiest option among the college ranks, but will be a wonderful partner for the long haul. …we’re still talking about baseball, right?
Tre Broussard, CF Houston (Big 12)
2-for-5, 2B, 2 R, RBI, BB, K
Xavier Perez, RF Houston (Big 12)
2-for-4, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB
The Cougars gave a valiant effort but could not overcome the Jayhawks at home. Centerfielder – YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT, CENTERFIELDER – Tre Broussard enjoyed a two-for-five game with a first-inning double to left, scoring McClane Helton to round-off a six-pitch AB. Of course, for the here and now, the denotion of his position indicates whatever mystery malady plaguing him through the first month of the year has surely passed, and we are all the better for it; Broussard’s electric no matter if he’s in the grass or at the dish. Speaking of quality outfielders in Houston, Xavier Perez has been as steady as they come this season and knocked a donk to deep right (a 379-foot, two-run shot) to plate Broussard.
Brady Ballinger, LF Kansas (Big 12)
2-for-3, HR, 3B, 4 R, RBI, 2 BB, K
An emergent game in a lackluster season for Ballinger, whose preseason hype is certainly normalized now. Still, a two-for-three day with a triple and a game-opening homer to deep right (a 378-foot whap, his third of the year) should be celebrated. Perhaps moreso, his two walks. My dear friends Stormdoor and the Salamander said that “he is born of a woman, plays baseball, breathes air, and hits the ball sometimes.” Thanks for subscribing, they're not gonna be chiming in for long!
Owen Kramkowski, RHP Arizona (Big 12)
5.2 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 3 K
Nearly a quality start from Kramkowski, who managed to give his defense enough to help him through five and two-thirds with a too-high nine hits and a too-low three punchouts. To be fair, Kram got through two frames unscathed, but in the top third, Tracer Lopez came away with a sac fly to right field to score Matt Quinanar and advance Jesse Rusinek to third; when Connor Shouse came to bat and singled through the left side of the infield, it scored Rusinek. The Wildcats’ defense could not help his cause, as on the next AB, Logan Hughes reached first on a fielding error and Robin Villeneuve scored from second. In the top fifth, Lopez hit another sac fly to center and Kram was not long for the game thereafter. You can hardly say this is his ‘fault’ and more ‘happenstance’ as it comes to allowing nine hits on the day, but the curious case of Dr. Arizona and Mr. Wildcats (or is it Dr. Owen and Mr. Kramkowski?) continues into conference play. Kramkowski has talent, but the puzzle pieces have not been correctly assembled for long (if at all) in 2026.
Connor Shouse, 3B Texas Tech (Big 12)
3-for-5, 3B, R, 2 RBI, K
👟 Jesse Rusinek, RF Texas Tech (Big 12)
4-for-5, 2B, 2 R, RBI, K, 2 SB
Connor Shouse went three-for-five with a seventh-inning triple down the right field line to score a run, continuing his outright heater from the midweek period. My brother Kyle indicated Shouse “displayed the ability to put balls into play today,” and “if he puts the ball in play, there is a chance it goes to the outfield, though sometimes not.” Hard to argue with those facts, nor the fact my Boys Weekend is one they are certainly enjoying, too. Jesse Rusinek found another two-way performance to his liking, going one-and-two-thirds with a pair of walks and a pair of punchouts, though his run-scoring single to center and pair of stolen bases were also highly impressive. Rusinek’s potential is incredible and will be a big part of the Red Raiders’ team moving ahead.
Big Ten
Covered by: Quinn Martin
Jake Hanley, 1B Indiana (Big Ten)
4-for-5, HR, 2B, 3 R, 2 RBI, K
Hanley was masterful as a freshman in 2025, winning the aforementioned Big 10 Freshman of the Year. In 2026, it was a slower start but he is now fully rounding into form. Hanley took a pretty solid pitch, a firm fastball on the outer half, threw his hands at it and took it around 400 feet over the CF wall to tie the game in the 5th. Indiana certainly has the pieces and starpower to make a real run in the conference. If their pitching holds up and Hanley can keep swinging it like last night, they have the potential to be a top 4 team in the conference. Their main competitors seem to be Nebraska and Purdue, should be fun to watch!
‼️ Kurt Barr, RHP Michigan (Big Ten)
7 IP, 6 H, ER, 10 K
Barr made the daily sheet way back in his first start in mid-February, since then, it's been a run of bad to just okay starts. He came back into form last night and shut down Nebraska's 11 game win streak. Barr had the breaking ball working, starting it middle-middle and plummeting out of the zone for chase and whiff. No walks in this outing is very important for Barr, he's walked at least at least 2 in every start this month. If this is the guy Barr can be every Friday night, Michigan is going to walk away from most weekends with at least one win.
💣💣 Aaron Manias, OF Purdue (Big Ten)
3-for-4, 2 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, BB
Manias has been around the game for 5 years now, making his way across the country finding his home, and it looks like he found it in Purdue. He is getting hot at the right time, absolutely putting it on Penn State yesterday. Manias has a great approach, his second HR came with 2 strikes where he goes with a no-stride attack. He got a fastball in and muscled it out, really impressive piece of hitting from someone looking to do damage but not sacrificing contact consistency to do it. Purdue is 4-3 in Big 10 play, they have a chance to finish in the top 5 and they are going to need Manias to be who it looks like he can be.
‼️ Mason Edwards, LHP USC (Big Ten)
6 IP, H, 3 BB, 12 K
He does it again. Mason Edwards is solidifying himself as the top college lefty in this year's draft class and the margin is becoming quite wide. His stuff is impressive and while there are occasional command issues, does it matter if he is striking out 12? I'm going to go with no, Edwards looks every bit of a first rounder and could climb into the top 15 with big outings against schools like UCLA and Oregon. The more he shows this level of performance, the higher he will go on draft day. Teams love the college lefty demographic and Edwards fits the bill.
Cashel Duggar, C UCLA (Big Ten)
2-for-4, HR, 2 R, 4 RBI
‼️ Logan Reddemann, RHP UCLA (Big Ten)
6 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, BB, 7 K
How many times do I need to say UCLA is a powerhouse? How about one more time as they crush Maryland in the series opener behind a heck of a day from the battery-mates. Reddemann continues to be underappreciated as a draft prospect, he's pitching to a 2.97 in 33 innings with 47 strikeouts and only 5 walks. That type of command with his level of stuff needs to be considered more. He isn't the flashiest name in the pool but his outings tell the story. His slider was working well last night and keeps everything in and around the zone as usual. A draft race I'd keep an eye on is Reddemann vs Liam Peterson. On the other side of the battery, Cashel Dugger continuing to make a name for himself put 4 on the board in one swing with a grand slam. He's known for his defensive chops but the bat is certainly coming around at an important time. Dugger will be a priority name for teams looking for catching depth on day 2 of the draft. He's certainly a name I wouldn't want to skip over.
💣💣 Dominic Hellman, DH Oregon (Big Ten)
2-for-3, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, K
Angel Laya, RF Oregon (Big Ten)
3-for-3, HR, 2B, 2 R, 5 RBI
My favorite freshman performs again and a 2 HR day for one of the most massive human beings in the country. Laya plays the game like a seasoned vet, everything he does is so poised and in control. By his junior year, I'll bet he eclipses 20 HRs and will be thought of it in a similar light to guys like AJ Gracia. The swing is gorgeous and the hit tool has been really solid. Can't ask for much more in a freshman year. Hellman on the other hand, hasn't put up the power numbers you might expect from a guy this massive. However, he's been a consistent presence in the middle of the Ducks order and I have to assume more games like this are coming for the junior.
Nick Groves, CF Illinois (Big Ten)
4-for-5, 3 R, K
AJ Putty, 1B Illinois (Big Ten)
4-for-5, 2B, R, 5 RBI, K
If you're going to beat Rutgers, you're going to have to score a lot. That's exactly what Illinois did and having your leadoff and cleanup hitters combine for 8-10 tends to help you win some games. It wasn't done through a ton of power or impact, but they kept the line moving which is important against a weaker Rutgers pitching staff. AJ Putty has been otherwordly good as a freshman and hasn't gotten the national attention he's earned. He's now hitting .390 on the year and is main catalyst for Illinois. He's an early contender for Big 10 Freshman of the year and should he not transfer, could be a massive building block in Illinois finding some program success. Nick Groves has been around for a while and you know exactly what you're going to get. He will put the ball in play, not very hard, but often and not strike out. Groves is your prototypical tablesetter type and has thrived in the role this season. Illinois has some good pieces but is it enough to make a run in the Big 10?
Mid Majors
Covered by: Joshua Salguero
🍔🍟 ‼️ Evan Dempsey, LHP Florida Gulf Coast (Mid Majors)
3-for-4, HR, R, 3 RBI, BB, SB | 7.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, BB, 9 K, HRA
Dempsey oh Dempsey. I can’t talk about this guy enough. He was thisssss close to putting up the best college game ever, no questions asked. Entering the 8th inning, Dempsey was perfect. Literally perfect. Flawless. At the plate, he was a perfect 4-4 with reaching base including a two-run homer. Oh yeah, he was starting also and THROWING A PERFECT GAME. The 8th inning wasn’t so kind, immediately breaking his perfect game with a single followed by a bloop and a blast to cut the lead to one. Even still, he stayed in the game and nearly finished the inning before a 10 pitch walk knocked him out. Sadly, this wasn’t a fairy tale ending as North Florida walked it off in the 9th but for seven innings, Dempsey had the best game of baseball possibly ever.
‼️ Braden Gebhardt, LHP Youngstown (Mid Majors)
6.0 IP, 3 H, BB, 7 K
Gebhardt’s turnaround has been incredible. The senior had never posted an ERA below 6.25 in his three years with Youngstown and now in his final season, he’s rocking a 1.18 ERA through 38 innings. It hasn’t been against cheap opponents either, his victims including Auburn, Oregon, and today, Georgetown. His last start ended his no earned runs allowed streak but he started a new one today, allowing just two unearned across six innings. He’s got the ideal starter’s build at 6’3 235lbs. His fastball sits low 90s from the left handed side. Something else unlocked within Gebhardt and he’s been nothing but dominant in 2026.
Ryan Pugh, RHP Delaware (Mid Majors)
4.0 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 5 K, HRA, SV
It’s been tricky figuring out which Pugh Delaware is getting out of the pen but today was a great Pugh. Coming in relief of a two run lead against a terrifying DBU offense, he kept them at bay, holding them to just two runs, one unearned. He began his appearance striking out Ben Tryon and apparently elite TWP Luke Pettitte and finished his day with a career high five strikeouts. Pugh has some intrigue, releasing from an over-the-top delivery with a fastball that sits in the low 90s. Like many pitchers, he suffers pretty badly when his command isn’t sharp but when it’s working, he’s on. He’s still just a sophomore so he can be an interesting name to watch for the next couple years.
👟 Colby Thorndyke, 1B Coastal Carolina (Mid Majors)
3-for-4, 2B, R, 2 RBI, 2 SB
Like for a majority of the Coastal Carolina offense, it’s been a rough year for Thorndyke. Today was a good slump buster breaking out of a short 0-11 stretch with a three hit day en route to a run rule win. Thorndyke continued his perfect run on the bases with two stolen bases, increasing his total a perfect seven for seven. It’s his third three hit game within the past two weeks and he looks right on the verge of breaking out. Usually he’ll have a multi-hit game followed by a couple lost-looking games so look to see how Thorndyke performs the rest of the weekend against JMU.
‼️ Ethan Norby, LHP East Carolina (Mid Majors)
6.0 IP, 5 H, ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Norby hasn't had quite the year that was expected of him entering the season. It’s been a very up-and-down season but this start looked like the Norby of old. He reached the six inning threshold for just the second time this season and allowed just one run, his lowest of the year. This start marked his first quality start of the year and did so against a very hot UAB offense. Even with their ace performing subpar, East Carolina still places third in the American Conference with strong pitching. If this marks the turning point for Norby, East Carolina can return to looking very dangerous with a two-headed monster in the rotation of Norby and Van Kempen.
💣💣 🍔🍟 Devin Parks, RF Radford (Mid Majors)
2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB
The Clemson transfer has been outstanding for Radford, slashing .329/.377/.586 on the year. A two homer game ignited the offense against a very hot VMI to hand them just their fourth loss of the season. The power looks as if it’s just emerging for Parks, as the two home runs today made it three in his past two games. All four home runs have come this month and he’s reached base in all but two games in the same span.
Maloy Heaghney, SS USC Upstate (Mid Majors)
2-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI, BB, 2 K, SB
After starting the season blazing hot, Heaghney found himself in the midst of a 3-25 slump with twelve strikeouts. While the strikeouts are still a concern, striking out eleven games in a row now (22 total), the hits have soared back. Heaghney pushed his hitting streak to six games and has gotten multi-hit performances in four of his last five games. He’s shown a good amount of power in this same streak with doubles in five consecutive games and homering twice during this span. His performance has certainly been polarizing to say the least but you gotta take the good when you can, especially when the streaks are this high.
💣💣 Maison Reising, DH Charleston (Mid Majors)
5-for-5, 2 HR, 5 R, 5 RBI
Five home runs would’ve made this line so pleasing but that may have messed with the RBI balance. Either way, nothing to complain about this performance as Reising led Charleston Southern to a win over Gardner-Webb. His first homer of the game came in the 5th and provided some cushion to their slim lead, extending it to three. His second homer of the day came in the 7th and pushed their lead to eleven, practically guaranteeing the win. Reising has gotten sparse chances at playing time, only starting eight games. However, in just these eight games, Reising has homered five times and is hitting .583. I think it may be time to give him some more chances now.
‼️ Ben Blair, RHP Liberty (Mid Majors)
7.0 IP, 3 H, BB, 8 K
Blair looked as sharp as he always does, tossing a brilliant seven innings. He really had his slider working today, bouncing the pitch between edges and getting five of his eight Ks with the pitch. He perfectly worked the edges of the plate and had the Kennesaw State lineup guessing which side he would work that at bat. His velocity looked the best it’s ever had as well, consistently holding 92-94 throughout the entire game without falter. Command and durability were the biggest questions regarding Blair and he’s seemingly answered both. In 35.1 innings, he’s walked just four batters and struck out a ridiculous 50 batters. He’s personally entered within my top five draft eligible pitchers and is flirting with the idea of a first round selection.
💣💣💣 Brayden Bakes, LF Illinois State (Mid Majors)
4-for-5, 3 HR, 3 R, 5 RBI
In his last ten at bats, Brayden Bakes has gotten eight hits, four homers, and a triple. Today was the best of these two games as he knocked three over the wall in a career best performance. His first home run began the scoring with a solo shot in the 1st. His next came in the 3rd with a runner on to bring his team within one run. His final shot of the day came in the 8th to extend their now present lead to five which resulted in the final score. His power has broken out big time this year as he now sits at sixteen extra base hits and nine home runs for the season, surpassing the eight total he had the previous year. His twin brother also had two doubles tonight also which I thought was pretty neat.
Jimmy Janicki, C Troy (Mid Majors)
2-for-5, HR, 2B, R, 3 RBI, K
Southern Miss is in a bit of a runt, losing three of their last five including Friday against Troy. Troy hasn’t played up to expectations and has been disappointing but this win was a statement win. Riding a three game win streak, they held tight to their lead and took a close Friday game against a highly ranked opponent. Starter Benjamin Stubbs did an amazing job holding the offense to just three runs and was backed with just enough run support. Jimmy Janicki has yet to have back-to-back games failing to reach base and continues with a two hit performance while driving in three runs. He demolished a ball 418 ft in the 3rd to put Troy in front 3-2. As preluded to earlier, Jimmy Janicki has recorded hits in 17 of his 21 games played. In this time, he’s slashing .365/.435/.725. There have been plenty of standout catchers this year so it’s easy to get lost in the names but Jimmy Janicki should not be among those forgotten.
‼️ Kyle Froehlich, RHP Texas State (Mid Majors)
7.0 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 10 K
Froehlich’s subsequent starts have been a far cry from his debut with the program at the beginning of the year but he flashbacked to February 13 Friday. Against a surging Louisiana team, he threw seven innings of one run ball with ten strikeouts. The Canadian righty tied his career high in innings pitched while setting a new one in punch outs. After a single with two outs in the 2nd, another batter wouldn’t reach base again until the beginning of the 8th. After surrendering a leadoff triple, Froehlich’s night was done. The runner did come around to score and put him in line for the loss but a four run bottom half prevented that from occurring and got Texas State the win. I did also want to shout out Sawyer Pruitt who continued to look amazing in opposition to Froehlich with seven shutout innings of his own.
‼️ Jackson Flora, RHP UC Santa Barbara (Mid Majors)
7.0 IP, H, 2 BB, 12 K
‼️ Isaiah Magdaleno, RHP Hawaii (Mid Majors)
8.0 IP, 3 H, ER, 3 BB, 6 K
A pitching duel fanatic’s dream. Two of the best in the Big West faced off and the result was better than you could’ve asked for. You got your typical Jackson Flora start, seven innings of one hit ball with twelve strikeouts. Over his last two starts, Flora has allowed just three hits and no runs over 14.1 innings with 23 strikeouts. He’s completely separated himself as the #1 pitcher class and it’s getting to a point where he can challenge Roch for the #1 overall spot. Even with his career best start, he still couldn’t get the win due to a late comeback by Hawaii and the work of their own starter. Isaiah Magdaleno put up one of his own career best starts, throwing eight innings of one run ball against the rulers of the Big West. His control wasn’t as good as his usual but he did a fantastic job of limiting hard contact and keeping the ball out of the air. Magdaleno himself has had a fantastic year, dropping his ERA to 2.82 with over a strikeout an inning. My condolences if you missed out on this game.
Jackson Halter, RF Marshall (Mid Majors)
4-for-8, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, K
I needed to give recognition to the Marshall vs. Georgia Southern game. The game was tied at nine entering the 9th and finished with a final score of 17-16 after 14 innings in Marshall’s favor. It wasn’t just back and forth exchanging runs either, it was a run explosion for both sides in the 14, Marshall scoring seven and holding Georgia Southern to just six to secure the win. Jackson Halter had the best performance with a four hit game including a home run in the 12th that was eventually nullified. He’s struggled this year but when he hits, he tends to carry the offense. He’s recorded a hit in just eight games while hitting .219 yet he leads Marshall in RBIs with 20.
‼️ Dax Whitney, RHP Oregon State (Mid Majors)
5.1 IP, 4 H, ER, 3 BB, 11 K
It wasn’t your typical Dax Whitney day, failing to reach six innings for the second consecutive start, and yet he still finished with eleven Ks and just one run allowed. Ridiculous. His typical high 90s fastball did show up today along with his slider, curve, and change. Besides his fastball, the slider really dominated today and was responsible for over half his strikeouts. It’s crazy to say but the slider may be the fourth best pitch in his arsenal and that pitch still shows it can take over a game. After Friday’s start, he now sits at 65 strikeouts over 34.2 innings, holding a narrow one K lead over Mason Edwards. How this guy managed to go undrafted out of high school is beyond me.

Ryan McPherson, RHP Mississippi State (Southeastern)
4 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 4 K
I've done my fair share of hyping up Ace Reese, however this wasn't a good showing. The hit tool is there, I'd just like to see him control the zone better. Friday starter Ryan McPherson pitched decent but it took him 66 pitches to get through 4 innings. He did notch 4 strikeouts to bring his season total to 40 in 33IP.
Ace Reese, 3B Mississippi State (Southeastern)
0-for-4, 2 K
Damian Ruiz, LF Arkansas (Southeastern)
3-for-4, HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB, K
💣💣 🍔🍟 Maika Niu, CF Arkansas (Southeastern)
3-for-5, 2 HR, 2B, 4 R, 6 RBI, BB, SB
It was a full menu for Maika Niu on Friday as the Razorbacks piled onto the South Carolina's misery. Not only did Niu launch a double dong, but he added a stolen base to make it a combo meal kind of night for good measure. The senior center fielder now has 5 homeruns and 26 RBI on the year.
Jaxon Jelkin, RHP Kentucky (Southeastern)
7 IP, 4 H, ER, 3 BB, 6 K, HRA
Jelkin improves to 5-0 on the season for the Wildcats with another strong outing. The JR RHP has shown great improvement this year as he now has 37K/8BB in 33.2IP, He looks to cement his name as 2-3 round pick in this years draft.
💣💣 Aiden Robbins, CF Texas (Southeastern)
2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, K
Aiden Robbins tried his hardest to win this game all alone, yet it wasn't quite enough. A double dong however is nothing to stick your nose up to. Robbins now leads the Longhorns in homeruns with 8 and RBI with 27. He is also hitting an impressive .500 with RISP.
Jake Marciano, LHP Auburn (Southeastern)
7 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 BB, 9 K, HRA
The Auburn southpaw made sure that his team had a solid base to win game 1 of a pivotal weekend series against Texas. Marciano continues his strong season and now has 51K to 4BB in 36IP. He has also allowed just 4 runs in that span as well.
Joey Volchko, RHP Georgia (Southeastern)
1.2 IP, H, 2 ER, 4 BB, K
Volchko was way off on Friday night for the Bulldogs, however the bullpen managed to take over and get game 1 taken care of. Joey Volchko is slated to start next Friday at home against the struggling South Carolina Gamecocks.
🍔🍟 Pierre Seals, RF Missouri (Southeastern)
2-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB
Seals was a nig contributor to the Mizzou offense that helped knock off the Vols on Friday night. A good time to go and get your first homerun of the year and add on a SB for good measure. The homerun which was the first of his season came in the top of the 3rd inning off Tegan Kuhns who struggled to get through 3 innings.
‼️ Tyler Fay, RHP Alabama (Southeastern)
9 IP, 2 BB, 13 K
Well this is certainly the way you bounce back after a mediocre start last week. A no hitter and complete game shutout for Tyler Fay, who looked locked in from the first pitch. Fay threw 132 pitches with 85 of them or 64% for strikes.
