Aqara's G400 is the wired doorbell for people who are sick of dead batteries
If I were to count the number of times my Ring doorbell has run out of battery before I got around to recharging it, I'd be closing in on triple digits, I reckon. So Aqara's latest pro-grade wired video doorbell is making a lot of sense to me.
The Aqara 2K Doorbell Camera G400 is now available in Australia, and unlike Ring's recent battery-powered doorbell range, it's designed to run without interruption.
You can connect it via Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), which delivers both power and a stable network connection through a single Ethernet cable, or wire it into existing 8 to 24V doorbell wiring and use the built-in dual-band Wi-Fi 6 for connectivity. Either way, you get 24/7 recording with no recharging required.
The camera shoots 2K video through a 165-degree ultra-wide lens in a 3:4 aspect ratio, giving you a full head-to-toe view of whoever is at your door, plus anything left on the step.
Motion and person detection happen on the device itself, so security alerts keep coming even if your internet drops. You can also set custom detection zones to monitor specific areas, like a front path or porch.
For those who want more intelligence, Aqara's optional HomeGuardian cloud subscription adds face, package, vehicle, and animal recognition, plus an AI-powered video search tool so you can quickly find specific events without scrubbing through hours of footage.
The G400 works with Apple Home (including HomeKit Secure Video), Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings. It also supports RTSP and ONVIF protocols, which means it can connect to network video recorders and third-party platforms without locking you into a single ecosystem.
When someone presses the bell, you get a live video call on your phone with two-way audio. If you'd rather not answer, customisable quick-reply messages let you respond in seconds.
Privacy features include video region masking, voice modification during two-way conversations, and a tamper alarm if someone tries to remove the camera.
There's local recording to a microSD card (up to 512GB) with automatic backup to a NAS, or cloud storage through HomeGuardian with up to 90 days of end-to-end encrypted footage.
The camera carries an IP65 weatherproof rating, so it handles rain, dust, and the harsh Australian sun. It ships with adhesive and screw-mount options, a 15-degree wedge bracket for flexible positioning, and a wireless chime unit in the box.
