Blink finally rings in a 2K doorbell for Australia
One of the things that surprised me when Blink finally launched in Australia was that it didn't actually offer a doorbell product. I'm a firm believer that the video doorbell is the foundation of a good home security system, so Blink's decision to launch without it was a surprise.
But finally, it now has a doorbell offering, and the wait was probably worth it.
The Blink Battery Doorbell 2K+ brings 2K resolution to an already competitive category, and at $109 it undercuts the Ring Video Doorbell 4 and most of the eufy doorbell lineup without cutting obvious corners.
It has a head-to-toe field of view to catch packages and visitors from top to bottom, improved dynamic range for tricky lighting at the front door, and no hardwiring required.
Battery life is rated at up to 21 months under default settings, so you won't have to panic about recharging regularly.
Smart motion alerts go straight to the Blink app, letting you check what's happening without monitoring a live feed constantly.
Upgrade to a subscription plan and Smart Detection kicks in, using computer vision to separate people and vehicles from general motion.
Subscription plans start at $4.95/month for a single device, or $15/month for the Blink Plus tier covering unlimited devices, which also unlocks cloud storage for clips and live view recordings for up to 60 days.
Alongside the doorbell, Blink is also launching the Solaris Battery, a snap-on solar accessory for the Outdoor 2K+ and Outdoor 4 cameras.
It only needs 45 minutes of direct sunlight to keep things running, carries an IP65 weather resistance rating, and snaps on without tools.
