Raven Software Founder Brian Raffel Has Retired
After 36 years, Brian Raffel, co-founder of the long-standing game studio Raven Software , has announced his retirement.
Raven Software is now considered one of the largest development studios in the industry. Known particularly for its massive contributions to the Call of Duty series since 2011 and the original IPs they have developed, the studio has created successful works in many different genres under Raffel's leadership. However, now it is time for the legendary name to pass the torch.
Raven Software Founder Retires
The retirement of Brian Raffel was confirmed through an official announcement on the Raven Software X account. Raffel co-founded the studio with his brother in 1990 and released their first game, Black Crypt , in 1992. Since then, the studio has grown into a giant, creating 42 different games, 12 original brands, and 18 Call of Duty projects. Brian Raffel is particularly known for his work on legendary titles such as Hexen , Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy , X-Men Legends , and Wolfenstein.
Raven Software has been in the kitchen of the Call of Duty series for over a decade. This journey, which began with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 released for PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii in 2011, continued with the battle royale phenomenon Warzone. Most recently, the studio played a critical role in the development process of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 , released in 2025.
The studio maintains a very active stance on adding new game modes for Call of Duty: Black Ops Royale. On the other hand, Treyarch continues to surprise players by adding a new playlist called 'GRWM' (Get Ready With Me) to the game.
