Josh D'Amaro Promises That “AI” Won’t Be Used To Replace Artist And Creativity During His Role As The Walt Disney Company CEO.
“For me, the magic of Disney is human-crafted storytelling,”
Josh D’Amaro thanked his predecessor, outlined key objectives and gave shoutouts to all parts of the company Wednesday in his first remarks to shareholders as chief executive of The Walt Disney Company.
During his opening speech, D'Amaro mentioned that technology will be embraced more as atool for the artists and creatives**(Refering to “technology as a tool” for things like animatronics, programs like Adobe Animate, Maya, Unreal and Unity for video games and VFX for films and TV shows)** but that during his ternure things like generative AI will not be used to replace human-crafted stories and art.
D'Amaro has been very vocal about it specially with the rise of generative AI in the film and entertaiment industry with companies like Coca-Cola, Lionsgate and Paramount wanting to use it.
“Disney has always been a place of imagination, innovation, and infinite potential – bringing human creativity together with cutting-edge technology to create unforgettable storytelling experiences. And very early on, Walt was thinking beyond the screen – from movies, music, and television, to merchandise, publishing, and theme parks. That vision has grown to encompass sports, news, games, streaming, cruise ships, hotels, and so much more. Simply put, while others in our industry are consolidating just to compete, or struggling to be relevant in a fragmented and disrupted world, Disney is in a category of one poised to accelerate into our next era of innovation and growth. And this next chapter will be driven by staying focused on world-class creativity, enhanced by technology , bringing unforgettable stories to audiences wherever they are.”
