Unable to determine directory status
Try these fixes in order:
1. Open Control Panel First
Many users fixed the issue simply by opening the hosting Control Panel once from the InfinityFree client area. This activates FTP access again.
Client Area → Hosting Account → Control Panel
Then wait a minute and try File Manager again.
2. Reset Hosting Account Password
A common cause is the hosting password being out of sync.
Do NOT use the password reset inside the control panel.
Instead:
Client Area → Hosting Account → Account Settings → Hosting Account Password → Update Password
After updating:
- Wait 15–30 minutes
- Login to Control Panel again
- Try File Manager
This has solved the exact “Unable to determine directory status” error for many users.
3. Check FTP with FileZilla
If File Manager is blank:
Use:
- Host:
ftpupload.net - Username: your hosting account username (
if0_xxxxxxxx) - Password: hosting account password
- Port:
21
If FTP works, your files are safe and only the web file manager is having issues.
4. Close Existing FTP Connections
InfinityFree limits FTP connections.
If you have:
- FileZilla open
- WinSCP open
- Another FTP session running
Close them all and try File Manager again. Too many FTP connections can cause the directory status check to fail.
5. Wait a Few Hours
Sometimes InfinityFree performs maintenance or has temporary FTP/storage issues. During these periods:
- Websites continue working
- File Manager becomes blank
- Directory status shows “Unable to determine directory status”
Several reports show the issue resolving automatically after some time.
