A Beaverton man is jailed on a second-degree murder charge after a Saturday night shooting in Gaston left a man dead, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said. Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies and Forest Grove Police Department officers responded to the 400 block of Vista Ridge Court around 9:16 p.m. June 20 after multiple people called 911 to report a shooting, the Sheriff's Office said. Officers detained Christopher Maller, 48, of Beaverton, at the scene. Neighbors and responders rendered aid to the victim, 42-year-old Christopher Serafin, but he died of his injuries at the scene. Detectives with the Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation. Investigators interviewed multiple witnesses and determined the shooting followed an altercation between Maller and Serafin, the Sheriff's Office said. Maller was charged with second-degree murder and lodged in the Washington County Jail. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are likely, the Sheriff's Office said. Serafin's family has been notified of his death. Anyone who witnessed the shooting and has not yet spoken with detectives can contact the Sheriff's Office Investigations Division at 503-846-2500 and reference case number 50-26-8646.
