Forest Grove's third 'No Kings' rally set for Saturday

Indivisible Forest Grove will hold its third "No Kings Day" rally Saturday along Pacific Avenue, part of more than 3,100 demonstrations planned across the country and worldwide. The rally will run from 4 to 6 p.m. along Pacific Avenue, from the intersection at Laurel Street near the giant flagpole toward the intersection with Highway 47. The group’s previous ‘No Kings’ rally in October drew about 800 people to the same area. The event is co-sponsored by a coalition of organizations including the ACLU, 50501, MoveOn, and Indivisible. “We are hosting our No Kings event for our community to feel less helpless and traumatized,” Susan Shepard, an organizer with Indivisible Forest Grove said. “This is our community’s opportunity to make our voices heard. You are not alone in this fight against fascism. ‘We the People’ have more collective power than you’d expect.” Organizers describe the day of action as a response to what they characterize as President Donald Trump’s governing posture, which they say is dismissive of congressional authority and defiant of the federal judiciary. Recent developments including the continued war with Iran and uncertainties over the fate of Oregon’s postmark law are sure to draw protestors. Peacekeepers in yellow vests will be on-site to maintain order and keep sidewalks accessible, event organizers said. Nonviolence is a core principle at all Indivisible events, organizers added.
