The intersection at 21st Avenue and Main Street in Forest Grove will become a 4-way stop starting Wednesday.
The city of Forest Grove said its Public Works team will install new stop signs with temporary bright orange flags to increase visibility. Message boards already in place near the intersection will remain for about a month after installation as a reminder of the change.
The Forest Grove Police Department said it plans to keep an eye on the intersection to help educate drivers about the change.
"For those of you who might need a little help understanding how a 4-Way stop works: it is common courtesy to allow the driver who stops first to go first," the department said. "When in doubt, yield to the driver on your right. Never assume another driver will yield the right of way to you."
"Our stats last year show that running stops & reds was actually the number one thing we stopped folks for last year," the department added.
