Disclosed are a top cap welding apparatus for cylindrical battery cells, the top cap welding apparatus including a transfer unit configured to move a cylindrical battery case in which an electrode assembly having an outwardly exposed electrode tab is received, a pressing unit disposed in front of the battery case, the pressing unit being configured to press the battery case, a support unit disposed at the rear of the battery case, the support unit being configured to support the battery case, a top cap holder configured to locate a top cap at the rear of the electrode tab, a top cap support unit configured to support the rear of the top cap, and a welding unit configured to weld the electrode tab and the top cap to each other, wherein the pressing unit is configured to press the battery case while controlling the angle between the electrode tab and the top cap or the distance between the electrode tab and the top cap such that the electrode tab corresponds in position to the top cap, and a top cap welding method for cylindrical battery cells using the same.
