Disclosed are a top cap welding apparatus for cylindrical battery cells, the top cap welding apparatus including a transfer unit configured to move a cylindrical battery case in which an electrode assembly having an outwardly exposed electrode tab is received, a pressing unit disposed in front of the battery case, the pressing unit being configured to press the battery case, a support unit disposed at the rear of the battery case, the support unit being configured to support the battery case, a top cap holder configured to locate a top cap at the rear of the electrode tab, a top cap support unit configured to support the rear of the top cap, and a welding unit configured to weld the electrode tab and the top cap to each other while pressing the electrode tab against the top cap at a predetermined pressure, and a top cap welding method for cylindrical battery cells using the same.
