The invention relates to a curtain airbag unit (10) with an inflatable gas bag (12) having a gas bag longitudinal plane (E) and a gas generator (11) with a gas generator longitudinal axis (A) and a housing end section (13) which has at least one gas outlet opening (14). According to the invention, the gas generator (11) is arranged in relation to the gas bag (12) such that the gas generator longitudinal axis (A) and the gas bag longitudinal plane (E) run substantially perpendicular to one another, and in the activated state of the curtain airbag unit (10), gas produced from the at least one gas outlet opening (14) flows directly from the gas generator (11) into the gas bag (12).
