Air bag arrangement for a motor vehicle

The airbag device has at least one inflatable region (2,4) which is inflated via a gas generator and which is secured between 2 spaced fixing points (10,50) in the automobile longitudinal direction, for providing a side curtain for protecting passengers in the event of an accident. At least one section (1) of the airbag device has a separation region (15) bridged by a tensioning element (6) which is inflated at the same time as the inflatable region, for reducing the length of the section with the separation region in the vehicle longitudinal direction.
