The invention relates to a control device (2) for controlling or regulating at least one lighting device (11, 12; 21, 22) of a motor vehicle. The control device (2) comprises a first communication interface (3) to a data bus (15, 25) of the motor vehicle, at least one second communication interface (4; 5) to the at least one lighting device (11, 12; 21, 22), and a computing device (6) for executing a computer program that is programmed to realize the control or regulation when it runs on the computing device (6). To simplify the system architecture, it is proposed that the control device (2) for controlling or regulating be designed for both at least one headlight (11; 12) and at least one rear light (21; 22).
