A projection device (1) comprises light emission means (2) emitting determined rays to illuminate a diffractive element (6) capable of modifying said rays for the formation of an image substantially at the focal point (7) of said diffractive element. According to the invention, the diffractive element (6) is illuminated by light rays sweeping the surface of the diffractive element under the effect of a deflection of a beam emitted by a high luminance source (10) onto a movable reflecting mirror (12). The projection device finds particular application in a motor vehicle, in particular for projecting driving signalization elements to following vehicles.
