METHOD FOR STARTING A LARGE DIESEL ENGINE AND LARGE DIESEL ENGINE
DRIVE
March 8, 2017
A method is proposed for starting a large diesel engine having a crankshaft and at least one cylinder with a combustion chamber for the combustion of a fuel and with a piston for reciprocating movement between a top dead center position and a bottom dead center position for driving the crankshaft, said method comprising injecting compressed starting air consecutively in each cylinder according to a firing sequence when the piston of the respective cylinder is in the region of the top dead center position, determining a control parameter which is indicative for the firing of the fuel in the respective cylinder and cutting off the compressed starting air for the respective cylinder when the control parameter indicates the firing of the fuel in the respective cylinder. In addition, a large diesel engine, especially a large two-stroke diesel engine, is proposed having a control device being designed for performing this method.
