The invention relates to a method of controlling an overall light beam (28) emitted by a motor vehicle headlight and formed by portions of light beams (36) that are selectively activatable and created independently of one another by lighting means (4, 6) carried by said headlight, the assembly of portions forming an overall light beam when they are all activated and arranged successively side by side. The instantaneous speed of the vehicle is compared to a first predetermined speed threshold, and a zone of high lighting intensity to be produced is determined when the instantaneous speed is greater than the first predetermined speed threshold.
