The invention relates to a method for assisting a driver of a vehicle, in particular a commercial vehicle, wherein a mobile display device (3), in particular a screen, is provided by means of which at least one vehicle information and/or at least one control menu for remote control of at least one vehicle function can be displayed to the driver. According to the invention, the display device (3) is connected in signal-transmitting manner to a position determination device (9), by means of which the position of the display device (3) relative to the vehicle (1) can be determined. Depending on the determined position, at least one vehicle information and/or at least one control menu for remote control of at least one vehicle function is then displayed by means of the display device (3).
