An air turbine starter (10, 210, 410, 610) that includes a housing (30). The housing (30) can circumscribe a turbine (54) coupled that is coupled to a gear train (68) in a gear box (72) via a drive shaft (66). The gear train (68) can couple to an output shaft (80, 680) via at least a carrier (82, 282, 482, 682). The air turbine starter (10, 210, 410, 610) can include at least a first bearing assembly (74) and a second bearing assembly (76, 476, 676) to rotatably support one or more of the drive shaft (66), the carrier (82, 282, 482, 682), or the output shaft (80, 680).
