A method for estimating a brake temperature (T) of a brake disc (10) of a vehicle, comprising the steps of: virtually separating the brake disc (10) in a brake disc body (11) and a brake disc contact surface layer (12) and estimating the temperature (T) of the brake disc contact surface layer (12) in dependence of the temperature (T) of the braking disc body (11) and a heat input in the brake disc contact surface layer (12) due to a braking action, wherein the estimated temperature (T) of the brake disc contact surface layer (12) corresponds to the brake temperature (T).
