VEHICLE GUIDANCE SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR OPERATING A DRIVING FUNCTION IN DIFFERENT MODES

A vehicle control system for providing a driving function for automated longitudinal guidance of a vehicle is described. The vehicle control system is configured to determine data relating to a first signaling unit located ahead in the direction of travel of the vehicle, and on the basis of the data relating to the first signaling unit to determine a complexity measure for the complexity of an intersection of a roadway traveled by the vehicle with one or more other traffic routes arranged at the first signaling unit. Furthermore, the vehicle control system is configured to operate the driving function at the first signaling unit in dependence on the determined complexity measure in an automatic mode or in a manual mode, wherein the first signaling unit is taken into account in the automatic mode automatically and in the manual mode only after confirmation by a user of the vehicle during the automated longitudinal guidance of the vehicle.
