The disclosure relates to a method for controlling a first vehicle (10) travelling along a planned trajectory (T). The method comprises detecting a stopped second vehicle (12) being located downstream of the first vehicle (10), detecting an identification feature of the second vehicle (12), transmitting an assistance request to a central control entity (16), receiving an information describing an amount of vehicles (51) being positioned downstream of the stopped second vehicle (12) and triggering a lane change maneuver or an overtaking maneuver. Alternatively, a waiting maneuver is triggered. Additionally, a method for assisting the first vehicle (10) in travelling along a planned trajectory (T) is disclosed. Moreover, a method for providing an information describing an amount of vehicles (51) being positioned on a planned trajectory (T) of a first vehicle (10) at a position downstream of a stopped second vehicle (12) is presented.
