A warning system (100) for an energy storage system (102) of a vehicle (104), the warning system comprising: an energy storage control unit (106) configured to detect a hazardous condition of an energy storage (108); and an illumination system (110) configured to illuminate a ground area (112) adjacent to the vehicle at the location of the energy storage for which a hazardous condition is detected.
