The present invention relates to a method for operating a system with a battery, wherein a storage time of the battery is automatically determined taking into account a self-discharge of the system, wherein the storage time is the remaining time during storage of the battery until reaching or falling below a predetermined limit value of a resting voltage of the battery. The present invention furthermore relates to a system for performing the method.
