A battery electric vehicle (100) configured to use an electric motor (10) as a driving power device includes a controller (30; 31; 32; 33; 34; 35) configured to control the battery electric vehicle (100), and a shifter. The controller (30; 31; 32; 33; 34; 35) is configured to switch between an automatic mode and a manual mode in accordance with a driver's operation of the battery electric vehicle (100), the automatic mode allowing the battery electric vehicle (100) to drive as a normal battery electric vehicle, the manual mode allowing the battery electric vehicle (100) to simulate manual transmission driving by receiving a virtual shift operation from the shifter, and, in the manual mode, switch regenerative braking force of the electric motor (10) in accordance with the virtual shift operation.
