AUTOMATED TRENCH MANUFACTURING AND ASSEMBLY FOR ATTACHING TRIM COVERS TO A CUSHION ASSEMBLY

A cushion assembly (200) comprises a cushion (202) having trenches/depressed channels (204) and a plurality of fasteners (206) mounted in said trenches/channels (204). A manufacturing assembly (100) having a plurality of heated die bars (102) is used to form said trenches/depressed channels (204) in said cushion (202). Said die bars (102) having a plurality of orifices (104) that cooperate with a plurality of receptacles (106) on said die bars (102) and actuators (108) for discharging said plurality of fasteners (206) from said receptacles (106) through said orifices (104) into said trenches/depressed channels (204) of said cushion (202). In a refinement, said die bars (102) may be heated such that a skinned over membrane is created on said trenches/depressed channels (204) of said cushion (202) to better retain said plurality of fasteners (206). A trim cover may cooperate with said plurality of fasteners (206) such that it is attached to said cushion assembly (200).
