A brake control device (20) for a vehicle unit (1A) of a train (1) is disclosed. The vehicle unit (1A) is a sub-set of the train (1) and includes a plurality of vehicles (10, 50). The brake control device (20) includes a required brake force calculator (36, 66) and a brake force distributor (39). The required brake force calculator (39) calculates a plurality of required vehicle brake forces (Fmx, Ftx), which are respectively required for the vehicles (10, 50) of the vehicle unit (1A), based on a plurality of detected decelerations (²rm, ²rt) respectively corresponding to the vehicles (10, 50) of the vehicle unit (1A) to calculate a required unit brake force (Fu). The brake force distributor (39) distributes the required unit brake force (Fu) between the vehicles (10, 50) of the vehicle unit (1A).
