A method for generating a pre- and/or post-trip driver assistance function of a vehicle through operation of at least one light source (110, 220) of at least one light-emitting element of at least one vehicle lamp of the vehicle is described. The method provides for the generation of one or more light signals serving to indicate a pre- and/or post-trip driver assistance function, which are obtained through operation of at least one light source (110, 220) of at least one light-emitting element of at least one vehicle lamp. The method provides that the pre- and/or post-trip assistance function fulfilled by one or more light signals of one or more vehicle lamps displays information to a user of a vehicle about the condition of the vehicle before and/or after a trip, without the user being located in the vehicle. The at least one light signal serving to fulfill the pre- and/or post-trip driver assistance function indicates, through a variable and/or predefined light color and/or a variable and/or predefined repetition sequence and/or through a variable and/or predefined illuminated area, unambiguous information about the availability and/or driving readiness and/or range of a vehicle.
