The invention relates to a charging station for providing electrical energy to an electrically operated vehicle, comprising a housing with an opening, a closing element associated with the opening for selectively releasing and/or closing the opening, at least one plug element accessible from outside the housing for establishing a charging connection with the vehicle, a power supply line guided into the housing with a plurality of electrical conductors for connection to a supply network, an internal electrical connection line associated with the plug element with a plurality of electrical conductors, a protective switch associated with the plug element, a line fuse for protecting at least individual electrical conductors of the internal electrical connection line, and a switching unit associated with the internal electrical connection line for selectively establishing and interrupting an electrically conductive connection between the plug element and the power supply line, wherein a plurality of spaced-apart and mutually non-electrically conductive connection rails are provided in the housing, to each of which an electrical conductor of the power supply line on the one hand and a corresponding electrical conductor of the internal electrical connection line on the other hand are electrically conductively connected.
