Internal combustion engine (1), in particular gas Otto engine, with - a plurality of cylinders (Z), wherein each cylinder (Z) is assigned a prechamber (2), - a prechamber gas supply line (4) through which the prechambers (2) can be supplied with fuel gas via a prechamber gas valve (3) assigned to the respective prechamber (2), - wherein an orifice (5) is arranged between the prechamber gas supply line (4) and the prechamber gas valve (3) in each case, wherein at least one, preferably all of the orifices (5) assigned to a prechamber gas valve (3) has such a small flow coefficient that the maximum pressure that develops between the combustion cycles in the volume (6) between the prechamber gas valve (3) and the orifice (5) does not reach the pressure prevailing in the prechamber gas supply line (4).
