The invention relates to a method for generating a front light distribution (54) by means of a vehicle lighting device (10), which comprises a base lighting device (12) for emitting a base light distribution (26) with predefined maskable zones (30) as well as a laser supplementary light (14) with a laser light source (32) and a light conversion device (36) for converting the laser light (34) into a variable supplementary light distribution (52). According to the method, a base light distribution (12) is generated with at least one masked-out zone (30), and a supplementary light distribution (52) is generated in such a way that it at least partially covers the masked-out zone (30). The invention also relates to a vehicle lighting device (10).
