The invention relates to a method for cold-start preheating of a supercharged internal combustion engine and/or an exhaust aftertreatment device of a supercharged internal combustion engine. The invention further relates to a motor vehicle, in particular a commercial vehicle, with a supercharged internal combustion engine, an exhaust aftertreatment device, and a device for cold-start preheating of the supercharged internal combustion engine and/or an exhaust aftertreatment device. In the method, a cold-start aid is arranged in the intake duct for heating the charge air when the engine is at a standstill. The internal combustion engine comprises at least one working cylinder, which in each case has at least one intake valve that is in communication with the intake duct, and at least one exhaust valve that is in communication with an exhaust system, as well as a device for adjusting a valve position. The internal combustion engine is capable of being supercharged with an electrically motor-driven supercharging device. In the method, the following steps are carried out after detection (S1) of a cold start of the internal combustion engine: activating the cold-start aid when the engine is at a standstill (S2); activating electric motor operation of the supercharging device (S3); and adjusting a valve overlap (S4) between at least one intake valve and at least one exhaust valve of a working cylinder in order to direct at least a portion of the charge air supplied by the supercharging device and preheated by the cold-start aid directly into the exhaust system.
